Biography
A native of Albuquerque and an alumnus of the University of New Mexico, James (Santa Fe) Galloway was a distinguished composer and pianist. A protégé of the legendary New Mexican composer John Donald Robb, Galloway played a critical role in preserving the region’s musical heritage—most notably through his scholarly arrangements of the alabados of the Penitente Brotherhood.
Throughout his career, he maintained a strong creative partnership with his alma mater, collaborating on major interdisciplinary projects such as the musical Travelin’ Show. From his early work as Music Director for the Harkness Ballet to his contributions as a U.S. Musical Ambassador, Galloway dedicated his life to elevating regional culture into the realm of high art.
